Engineering course - Second year

At the start of the second year, each student chooses a major, which is a coherent set of scientific and technical lessons to best prepare the student for the choices for the 3rd year.

Learning outcomes 2A

The ENSTA Paris competency framework is defined on the basis of the School's education plan and the general engineering competency framework as expressed by the engineering qualifications committee

The scientific teachings of the second year

The classes of the major are spread over the 1st semester and the start of the 2nd semester.

At the end of the first semester, students choose a minor, which provides more in-depth knowledge on one of the themes covered by the major, or which leads to a double competence.

Semester 2 of the second year can also be done at a partner university as part of the internationalisation of the course.

Engineering Project by TEP Team

A Team Engineering Project spans the entire second year. Carried out in a team of about ten students, it allows students to tackle the management of large-scale projects through the design and execution of an ambitious technological project, proposed by a laboratory, a business, or on a student challenge (Shell-eco Marathon, robotics French Cup, etc.).

The TEP integrates the "ecological transition" dimension. Students are trained to take into account the issue of sustainability: analysis of the life cycle of a product and realization of the carbon footprint of the project.

Research Project

RPs close the second year for those with the student status. For students who will continue under apprentice status in the second year, the RP is carried out at the end of the first year.

This internship, which lasts between 2.5 and 4 months, allows students to carry out full-time laboratory research work. Projects can be carried out within research teams belonging to laboratories of the School or partners of the School, academic or industrial, in France or internationally. The subject of the project and the choice of the host team are left to the initiative of the students in conjunction with the School's teacher-researchers. The research project ends with the drafting of a report and a formal defence before a panel of examiners.

Economic, human and linguistic training

Lessons in law, economics and management, culture and modern languages continue throughout the year, with the exception of the last two months, reserved for the RP.

Pre-training for those enrolled on the basis of qualifications (AST)

Students enrolled on the basis of qualifications benefit at the start of the year from specific additional common core courses.
