Presentation of the Advanced Master in project management of charging infrastructure and electric vehicles
Echoing the general desire of industrialists and public authorities to promote mobility that is more eco-friendly and more energy efficient, the Advanced Master in Project Management of Charging Infrastructure and Electric Vehicles (formerly Electric Vehicle Engineering) is offered jointly by three engineering schools of ParisTech in partnership with Renault, with the support of the EDF group and professional automotive associations. It is registered in the National Directory of Professional Certifications.
Objectives of the course
This course is the first in France to deal exclusively with this topic, which responds to a strong need of businesses to recruit engineering experts capable of identifying the markets associated with the transformation towards the electrification of individual and collective road vehicles, of designing electric vehicles, deploying and managing recharging infrastructure projects in line with the innovation strategies of transport companies and their ecosystem. The educational goals relate to the following three areas:
- The first area is more informational in nature: necessary modification of human behaviour and the use of new computer resources to confer virtual autonomy compensating for the real loss caused by the use of energy storage in electrical form (less efficient than fossil fuels).
- The second area is related to electrical systems. The objective is to provide knowledge of the technological solutions currently available to perform the various electrical functions optimally, ensuring the storage and management of energy flows within a hybrid or pure electric vehicle.
- The third area of work concerns the impact of this change on traditional automotive professions. The objective is to review the design and sizing methods of vehicle architecture in the disciplines of mechanics, materials, acoustics and mechatronics.
The course relies on the "Distributed Energies" technological platform
of the Lille campus as well as on the e-Vehicle platform presenting innovative industrial means (real-time network simulator, charging stations for electric vehicles, storage benches, engine test benches and industrial variators enabling the emulation of the traction chain for electrified vehicles, etc.).
The course lasts for one academic year from the end of September to the end of September of the following year:
Theoretical course (academic sequence) (45 ECTS):
- Sustainable mobility issues and impacts of Electric Vehicles
- Energetics of Electric Vehicles
- Electric Vehicle Design Tools
- From classic electromechanical conversions to wheel motors
- Static conversions (Power electronics)
- Energy storage
- System control-command by project approach
- Battery, acoustics, operational safety, mechatronics, HMI
Industrial sequence (30 ECTS): Professional assignment in a business or an organisation lasting 6 months full-time from April to the end of September. This work is the subject of the drafting and defence of a professional thesis at the end of September.
This Specialised Masters offers the acquisition of extensive professional skills that enable:
- Identifying the markets associated with the transformation towards the electrification of autonomous vehicles;
- Collecting scientific data in a relevant way and selecting the technical information needed to define a new product by being part of an innovation strategy of a transport business;
- Carrying out design studies;
- Carrying out production and/or construction studies;
- Carrying out technical tests.
Opportunities for the IRVE advanced master graduates
This Specialised Masters opens up careers abroad or in France in businesses or national/international organisations focused on the design and production of electric / hybrid vehicles and the development of infrastructure related to their use. The graduates will be rapidly guided towards jobs of high responsibility in an emerging sector with the major global car manufacturers, or their subcontractors. They may in particular be recruited by:
- transport equipment businesses and car manufacturers;
- businesses managing passenger transport networks;
- service companies: urban transport authorities, vehicle rental companies, taxis;
- design offices and consulting firms specialising in land use planning, town planning, management of transport infrastructure.
