ENSTA Paris is administered by a board of directors and headed by a director, assisted by an education board and a research board. These bodies are described below.
Board of directors of ENSTA Paris
The board of directors determines the general orientations relating to education, research activity, the scientific and technical information policy and external cooperation of the school.
It deliberates on major actions related to the administration of the School, approves the tuition regulations and, gives its opinion on any matter submitted to it by its chairperson or by the supervisory authority.
The board of directors deliberates on:
- The budget of the establishment and its modifications, as well as on the financial statements
- Equity investments, creation of subsidiaries, acceptance of donations and bequests, remission of debts
- Leases and rentals, acquisitions, exchanges and alienations of buildings
- The categories of agreements and contracts that must be submitted to it for approval
- Legal actions
- Ways to facilitate the employment of students after leaving school
- Settlements.
It approves the school's tuition regulations.
It gives an opinion on:
- The general conditions of admission of civilian students and auditors of the training courses, as well as interns and auditors of postgraduate training and specialisation courses
- The general terms of education for the different categories of students and the conditions for issuing different degrees and certificates
- The establishment's internal regulations, which become enforceable after approval by the Minister of Defence
- The appointment of the director of education and research
- The general rules for recruiting staff on contract by the establishment.
More generally, it gives its opinion on any question submitted to it by its chairperson or by the supervisory authority.
Every year, it submits a report on the activity and functioning of the school to the Minister of Defence.
It meets, on the summons of its chairperson, at least twice a year. It is also convened by its chairperson if at least half of its members so request, or at the request of the supervisory authority.
Education Board - CF
The education board participates in an advisory capacity in the governance of the school for academic aspects:
It is consulted on questions relating to education in its various aspects, and in particular on teaching programmes and volumes, teaching methods, knowledge tests, certification of studies, as well as on the links between teaching and research.
It gives an opinion on the school's tuition regulations, which become enforceable after approval by the board of directors.
It is consulted for any appointment of teaching staff as a main occupation and on the general management of the teaching staff as an ancillary occupation.
It gives its opinion on any question submitted to it by the director of the school.
It meets at least twice a year when convened by its chairperson. It is also convened by its chairperson if at least half of its members so request.
Research Board – CR
The research board participates in an advisory capacity in the governance of the school for academic aspects.
It is consulted on the general orientations of research, on the resources to be allocated to it, on the creation or destruction of laboratories, on the relations to be established with national, foreign or international scientific circles, on the participation of laboratory personnel in education and on requests for authorisation to award national postgraduate degrees.
It examines the annual report of laboratory research activities and actions to promote and disseminate scientific and technical culture.
It gives its opinion on any question submitted to it by the director of the school.
It meets at least twice a year when convened by its chairperson. It is also convened by its chairperson if at least half of its members so request.
Guidance Board
The Guidance Board is a complementary body to the Board of Directors and the Education and Research Boards. It is responsible for analysing, giving an opinion on and offering guidance on the development and changes at ENSTA Paris in relation to the expectations of the future employers of the students. Its members are appointed by the Board of Directors, on a proposal from the School's management.
In particular, it issues opinions and proposals concerning training courses (engineering, Masters, Doctorate), the professional integration of students, preparation for working life, etc.
This board is a forum for dialogue with potential employers, who represent the economic fabric for whom ENSTA Paris trains future professionals. It does not have a decision-making role.
